A Typical Lesson

Upon entering the training hall (Dojo) you are expected to do a standing bow. The club will then line up facing the instructor in grade order, black belts at one end and white belts (novices) at the other end and the coloured belts in between. The class will then kneel down and formally bow to the instructor who returns the bow. This procedure is repeated at the end of the lesson.

The instruction will consist of the 3 Ks. These are Kihon, Kata and Kumite.

Kihon (Basics)

The class will practise the basic punches, blocks and kicks for their standard / belt and receive instruction in new techniques.

Kata (Form)

Each colour of belt is shown a kata for their grading (belt). The kata is practised in a standard form and must be learnt for their grading.

Kumite (Sparring)

Again each colour of belt will practise the type of sparring that is required for the belt they are training for. The black belts practise the most advanced type of sparring and the white belts the most basic type of sparring. There are strict guidelines to be followed to ensure there are no accidents.
